چکیده

Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a promising wireless technology for several emerging and commercially interesting applications, e.g., broadband home networking, community and neighborhood networks, coordinated network management, intelligent transportation systems. It is gaining significant attention as a possible way for Internet service providers (ISPs) and other endusers to establish robust and reliable wireless broadband service access at a reasonable cost. WMNs consist of mesh routers and mesh clients as shown in Fig. 1. In this architecture, while static mesh routers form the wireless backbone, mesh clients access the network through mesh routers as well as directly meshing with each other. Different from traditional wireless networks, WMN is dynamically selforganized and self-configured. In other words, the nodes in the mesh network automatically establish and maintain network connectivity. This feature brings many advantages for the end-users, such as low up-front cost, easy network maintenance, robustness, and reliable service coverage. In addition, with the use of advanced radio technologies, e.g., multiple radio interfaces and smart antennas, network capacity in WMNs is increased significantly. Moreover, the gateway and bridge functionalities in mesh routers enable the integration of wireless mesh networks with various existing wireless networks, such as wireless sensor networks, wireless-fidelity (Wi-Fi), and WiMAX [3]. Consequently, through an integrated wireless mesh network, the end-users can take the advantage of multiple wireless networks. Some of the benefits and characteristics of wireless mesh networks are highlighted as follows:

Multi-channel Medium Access Control Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey

Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. Hence, using multiple channels can significantly ...

Network Layer Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: Existing Classifications and Design Challenges

Classifying and designing routing mechanisms or protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks are challenging due to the some inherent characteristics (energy efficiency and awareness, connection maintenance, minimum resource usage limitation, low latency, load balancing in terms of energy used by sensor nodes, etc.) that distinguish this network from the other wireless networks such as mobile ad hoc ...

A Novel Multicast Tree Construction Algorithm for Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks

Many appealing multicast services such as on-demand TV, teleconference, online games and etc. can benefit from high available bandwidth in multi-radio multi-channel wireless mesh networks. When multiple simultaneous transmissions use a similar channel to transmit data packets, network performance degrades to a large extant. Designing a good multicast tree to route data packets could enhance the...

A Routing-Aware Simulated Annealing-based Placement Method in Wireless Network on Chips

Wireless network on chip (WiNoC) is one of the promising on-chip interconnection networks for on-chip system architectures. In addition to wired links, these architectures also use wireless links. Using these wireless links makes packets reach destination nodes faster and with less power consumption. These wireless links are provided by wireless interfaces in wireless routers. The WiNoC archite...
